I admit it – I just love weddings and a little action! That’s whats great about wedding photography. It requires all types of photography, whether it’s portrait, landscape, action or product shots . Then there’s working under pressure making sure all the required shots are captured and then spending some fun time creating artful images with my couples. My favorite thing about being a wedding photographer is getting to know my clients. My couples spend their whole wedding day with me so I feel it is important for all of us to feel comfortable with each other.

I became fascinated with photography at an early age, thanks to my father. It wasn’t his photographic skill that inspired me though, as my dad was not a very good photographer. We would always joke how people in his photos would have plants and trees growing out of their heads. It was my father’s actual camera that got me hooked. I loved the way it felt in my hands – all those sleek controls and buttons. I was amazed how it could also be used to create these awesome images on a thing called film! I still have that camera – an old East German Praktica 5B and sits right on my desk along with my very own first camera, a Canon A1. Instead of following my passion for photography I ended up in the aerospace industry (that’s a story for another day). I must have done a good job, because I ended up President of an aircraft parts business and found myself traveling the world. It was on one of those trips in 1999 when an impulse purchase (something I’m accused of doing too often) led to a new Nikon film camera. I was hooked again and in no time wanted to be a travel and landscape photographer. In an unexpected twist of fate I even managed to win a National Geographic contest for a photograph I took in Greece. (I owe my wife for this one as she constantly encouraged me to enter my images). A second game changer occurred in 2004 when my nephew asked me to photograph his wedding up in Canada. Now – I had always associated wedding photography with cheesy images and poses. (This may have to do with the powder blue tuxedo with ruffles that I wore to my own wedding). But since it was family I graciously accepted. I bought a book on wedding photography, traveled to Canada, photographed his wedding and yep – I had a blast! It was so much fun and creative I knew right then thats what I wanted to do. Six months later and I was a full-time wedding photographer with my aerospace career in the rear-view mirror. So I’ve been shooting weddings full time now for about nine years and do I ever dream about being one of those world-traveling, award winning photographers? Not really – I don’t even enter photography competitions. I think the true judges of my work are my clients. If they value my images and album, I couldn’t ask for a larger reward.

For you organizational types: I live in Los Angeles, CA with my wife and dog. My kids are out doing their own thing and none as of yet has discovered photography. I am currently a member of Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI). I am honored to be a Lumix Luminary with the Panasonic Lumix Luminary team – helping other photographers with hybrid photography and micro four third cameras. I have written for a couple of online photography sites and continue to speak and teach around the country.
